NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The body of the 16-year-old boy who drowned Tuesday afternoon while swimming with friends at Percy Priest Lake was finally found Thursday.

Two days after Kortae Hughes lost his life, crews found his body in the Nashville lake around 7 p.m.

Hughes, a sophomore at Hillwood High School in west Nashville, was flipping into the water from the bank at the Smith Spring Recreation Area Tuesday afternoon.

During one of his flips, Hughes went under water and never resurfaced. The call to 911 was received at 3:38 p.m.

Divers combed the water with the help of sonar technology on their boats Tuesday afternoon and evening. A search dog was also assisting the crew.

Friends and family took to social media Tuesday night to express their memories and sorrow in the loss of Hughes.

Grief counselors were at Hillwood throughout the day Wednesday to work with students, staff and faculty to help deal with the tragedy.

Hillwood High School's executive principal, Dr. Steve Chauncey, said Hughes was a "very personable young man" with "potential to be a success both socially and academically."

He also said Hughes has an older brother who attends the high school and is on track to graduate next week.  The senior did not attend school Wednesday, instead he was with family grieving for his younger brother.
