Sounds squander 8-run lead in loss to Cubs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds got out to an early eight-run lead Sunday only to suffer a 12-11 loss to the Iowa Cubs.

The Sounds scored a season-high run total for the third consecutive day but could not hang on for the win. The Sounds sent 10 batters to the plated and scored a hefty five runs on numerous Cubs errors in the first inning.

Hunter Morris kept the offense going in the second inning with his fifth homerun of the season.

The Sounds held an 11-4 lead heading into the 6th inning but a two-run homerun from the Cubs’ Eli Whiteside started a run rally to cut the lead to just two runs. Nashville bats remained silent the rest of the contest while a three-run eighth sealed the victory for Iowa.

The two teams continue the series on Monday.
