MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A 48-year-old man was arrested late Thursday night for assaulting his girlfriend at a Murfreesboro motel.

A witness observed James Jones strangling the victim in a room at the Regal Inn on South Church Street after police said she told him she wasn’t into “couple swapping.”

According to the police report, the girlfriend learned Jones had recently had sex with a female friend of theirs and became upset with him.

The victim suffered red marks around her neck and told police at one point she couldn’t breathe.

Jones was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault.

He was booked into the Rutherford County jail on $2,500 bond and will appear in court June 5.
