NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Nashville singer who is battling cancer is continuing to share her gift of music.

Dawn Sears, who is a member of the group the Time Jumpers, is called one of the best in the business.

“She is not just an okay singer. She is one of the very best that I have ever head, and in country music there is only a handful of women singers that really destroy you, and she is one of them,” explained country star Vince Gill.

Sears was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer. It has since progressed to stage four after the disease spread to her lymph nodes and liver.

She underwent six rounds of chemotherapy and 32 radiation treatments. Only 10% of people who undergo the treatment is cured of cancer.

Unfortunately, Sears was not one of them. Through it all, her voice has remained intact as she continues to perform.

She told News 2 that performing is her medicine. Her audience supports her with cards, e-mails, Facebook posts and prayers.

Sears said the illness has changed her perspective on life.

“You get more of a sense of what is important and it sounds crazy, but cancer has been a blessing in many ways," she said.

Sears also thinks of her daughter Tess when she performs and that drives her her to keep going.

“I am gonna bulldoze my way through this, you know like I told my daughter, I don't want to die. My funeral is paid for, my t's are crossed my i's are dotted, but I am not ready. I told my doctor, you have got to hear me. I am not ready.”

Sears said her family has never been the type to throw in the towel, and they do not plan to do it this time.
