NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An Amqui Elementary School third grade student was disciplined after bringing a toy gun on his school bus.

Metro police were called to Creekwood Drive Thursday morning after a report of a weapon in the boy’s backpack.

It was later determined the gun was fake.  Officers removed the toy gun from the student’s backpack and allowed him back on the bus.

Metro Nashville Public Schools has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to weapons, however, a school spokesperson told News 2 Thursday was not a zero-tolerance offense because it was not a real gun.

School officials said the child has since been disciplined.

Several parents told News 2 they were upset about the incident.

“I’m just concerned about the other kids on that bus,” said one mother whose two daughters ride the bus.

It is unclear who saw the toy gun and reported it to authorities.

A school spokesperson told News 2 the child did not use it in a threatening way.
