Sumter Police officer donates bedroom furniture to teenager

Posted: Updated:
SUMTER, S.C. - Cameron Simmons,13, called Sumter Police a few weeks ago because he was upset after fighting with his mom. He told police he didn't want to live at his house anymore.

Officer Gaetano Acerra of the Sumter Police Department told Cameron he had it good. "You have a roof over your head, and I told him I would try to help him out, and here we are now."

When he visited Cameron at home he noticed he didn't have a real bed. He didn't have much of anything for his room.  So Officer Acerra decided he would get him a few things to try and make his room a nicer place.

He bought him a queen sized bed, desk and chair, and TV. When the officer shared the story, someone donated a Wii game system as well.

The officer said he did it because it was the right thing to do.  He said he even plans to bring the teen some more bedroom furniture, including a dresser and mirror.
