NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The daughter of a Holocaust survivor is speaking out about what it was like for her to read some controversial comments from Knoxville state Senator Stacey Campfield.

In his daily blog called Camp4u, Sen. Campfield wrote on Monday, "Democrats bragging about the number of mandatory signups for Obamacare is like Germans bragging about the manditory (sic) signups for 'train rides' for Jews in the 40s."

Dr. Wendy Baker told News 2 she was shocked by the senator's statement.

"It was a very irresponsible comment," said Baker.

Baker is one of many who were offended by the Senator's recent comments. She felt so moved by what her father and other Holocaust survivors had to endure, she sent Senator Campfield an email offering an opportunity to meet with her father, writing in part,

"Dear Mr. Campfield here is my father Art Pais phone number (excluded due to privacy). He is one of your Knoxville constituents. He's an 86-year-old survivor of Dachau. Call him. Get to know him. Hear his stories."

Baker continued in the lengthy emails, "Do you not understand that people who loosely toss around such outrageous analogies are threatening to people who have lived through these horrific atrocities, not clever?"

Baker said her father was separated from his family at the age of 14 and was then sent to a Jewish work camp in Lithuania, but he managed to survive. Baker feels the lawmaker's comparisons are outrageous.

"It's really kind of propaganda similar to what the Nazi’s used," said Dr. Baker.

News 2 reached out to Senator Campfield about Dr. Baker's email.

In a phone conversation he said, "I already put a statement out on the issue."

Baker said her father has not received a response or explanation from Campfield.
