NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A 32-year-old Nashville woman was killed in a fiery crash early Wednesday morning in southern Davidson County.

Metro police said Brandi McCoy was traveling east on Murfreesboro Pike when she traveled off the roadway at La Vergne-Couchville Pike and struck a utility pole at 2:15 a.m.

Her Ford Fusion burst into flames upon impact. Witnesses told police the flames were too powerful to attempt a rescue.

Police said there was no sign McCoy applied her brakes prior to hitting the pole. She was the only person inside the car.

A friend reported that she and McCoy had been drinking prior to the crash.

Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether alcohol contributed.

Police closed several lanes of Murfreesboro Pike to traffic as they investigated the scene.
