A portion of Nolensville Pike in Brentwood is expected to remain closed through the night after power lines fell across the roadway following a crash Tuesday morning.
The incident, which happened around 6 a.m., closed the portion between Concord and Holt roads, causing traffic to become a total nightmare during the morning commute.
Officials told News 2 a red SUV first struck an electric pole after the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. He was transported to Southern Hills Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
As officials were directing traffic through the area, a semi hit a low-hanging suspension cable, causing the pole to collapse and hang by its wires.
The wires then became draped across both the road and the tractor trailer.
A second poll also snapped, creating large sparks and loud noises, but it remains upright.
Power was knocked out for hundreds of nearby residents. Click here to view an outage map.
Police shut down the road for safety and to allow NES crews to work on the scene.
There is no word on when the roadway will reopen. Officials told News 2 it could take until Tuesday night to fix the problem.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes if possible.
