NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Georgia minister is out half of his life savings after he purchased a truck that had unknowing to him been stolen from a Nashville car lot.

Ray Owens told News 2 he paid $14,000 cash for the truck that a woman purchased by using a fake ID and fake social security number to qualify for financing.

Owens said he and his wife Judy saw the vehicle advertised on Craigslist. The 74-year-old man and his wife drove from their Georgia home to meet the truck seller in Fairview, Alabama.

After looking over the truck’s VIN number, title and paperwork, Owens handed over the cash and drove off in his new vehicle.

The Georgia resident said he didn’t learn the truck was stolen until he tried to register it.

The truck has since been returned to the Nashville car lot, though Owens and his wife are now out half of their retirement money.

Anyone with information on the theft is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
