KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Rising sophomores Darius Thompson and AJ Davis have both asked for and been released from their scholarships by Tennessee.

New head coach Donnie Tyndall confirmed it Monday through Twitter stating, “Darius and AJ have asked for their releases to explore their options. We want guys that want to be here. We hope they will return.”

Thompson averaged two points, two rebounds and two assists a game playing mostly off the bench his freshman season.

The former Blackman star from Murfreesboro still has three years of eligibility remaining.

The six foot, nine inch Davis averaged only one point and one rebound a game as a freshman.  He averaged nine minutes a game.

The defections of Thompson and Davis come after the Tyndall lost all four members of Cuonzo Martin’s recruiting class.
