3 injured after crane collapses at Joelton school

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A crane collapsed late Monday morning at a school under construction in Joelton.

It happened around 10:45 a.m. at the old Joelton Middle School located at 3500 Old Clarksville Pike.

The school is under renovation and there are no students attending the school this year.

According to Joe Bass, spokesperson for Metro schools, three workers received minor injuries when the medium-sized crane toppled onto a wall.

Bass said one of the crane’s four support legs was parked on an underground tank, causing the the tank to cave in and the crane arm to drop on the wall.

He added that crews were unaware of the underground tank and would not have parked over it had they known. The tank was old and full of water.

The falling crane arm caused some damage to the wall, but the wall itself did not collapse.

None of the workers’ injuries are considered life-threatening.
