NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police are searching for a murder suspect spotted Monday morning at a condominium complex in Donelson.

Rodrecus Smith, 25, is wanted for the murder of Mario McKnight last fall.

Around 8:15 a.m. Monday, a man matching his description was seen running into a wooded area behind the Terrace Park Townhomes in the 3100 block of Elm Hill Pike, just east of the Nashville airport.

"When officers arrived, Rodrecus Smith the suspect, we believe ran from one of these apartments into the wooded area," said Kris Mumford, Spokeswoman for Metro Police Department.

Police suspect Smith may have been staying in one of the units in the complex while on the run.

"Hopefully they just find him and nobody gets hurts in the process that's the best I can hope for," said Shantel Lopez a resident of the complex.

Several police units responded to the scene. A helicopter and canines also aided in the search.

Nearby Child Care USA Learning Center, a daycare located at 3300 Elm Hill Pike, was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

"I rather for them to be on lock down and to be safe," said concerned resident Vera Hardan.

Smith is under indictment for the October 30, 2013 shooting death of McKnight.

McKnight, 35, was killed while riding in the rear of a dry cleaner’s van in the vicinity of 12th Avenue South and Argyle Avenue.

It is believed that he and the van’s driver were trying to flee a street robbery related to a nearby dice game.

Investigators say Smith and convicted felon Martez Parham are behind the fatal shooting.

Parham, 22, is under indictment for being an accessory after the fact. He was arrested during a traffic stop on April 16.

Smith is medium build, about five feet, seven inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing black jeans and no shirt.

Smith should not be approached. If you see him, call Metro police at 615-862-8600.
