MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

Murfreesboro officials rescued 11 ducklings that were trapped in a storm drain.

The rescue occurred on Southeast Broad Street near the Discovery Center Saturday morning.

The Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department worked with two sergeants from the Murfreesboro Police Department to help the ducks.

Ten of the ducklings were easily removed from the drain and were reunited with their mother. Discovery Center employees had to use a canoe to get the last duck across the river.

“Unfortunately, this was not the first duck rescue we’ve experienced at this storm drain,” said Shift Commander Dale Maynard. “However, we truly appreciated the help of Sergeants Roche and Atchley of MPD, who were very instrumental in the success of this particular rescue.”

None of the ducklings trapped in the storm drain were injured.
