MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. - Allegations of racism inside the Millersville Police Department have sparked a major investigation.

Last year, someone reportedly put material associated with the Ku Klux Klan along with a handwritten note in a black officer’s mail box.

The city is taking the incident very serious, going as far as making all the police officers, reserves and dispatchers submit writing samples as part of the investigation.

Millersville City Manager Robert Mobley told News 2, “We don’t know if the intent was to illicit humor, which it shouldn't’t have; it’s inappropriate, or whether it’s an insult of some type. But it was inappropriate regardless.”

Mobley also said the officer did not immediately report the matter because the officer he suspected is a long time coworker.

“They have known each other for a great many years. I don't know what type of relationship. I always assumed they were good friends over the years,” he explained.

City officials said they have preliminary handwriting results back and a full report could be completed in two weeks.

The person responsible could face termination.
