NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An elderly woman and her husband who cared for her were found dead Thursday afternoon in their Hermitage home.

The couple was discovered just before 2 p.m. during a welfare check at their home on Baton Rouge Drive off Andrew Jackson Parkway and Lebanon Pike, just east of Nashville.

Metro police said there are no signs of foul play.

It appears the husband died more than a week ago of natural causes and his wife died several days later because her husband was no longer alive to care for her.

Police said the woman suffered from dementia and likely died within the last two to three days.

There was a nurse who occasionally visited the home to check on the couple. She was last at the residence on April 21.

Autopsies will be performed.

The couple’s identity was not immediately released.
