NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A 16-year-old student at Hillsboro High School was stabbed in the parking lot of the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville Monday afternoon.

It happened in the parking lot across the street from the school on Hillsboro Pike around 2:40 p.m.

The boy was stabbed in the arm by a 15-year-old girl.

Metro police said the two classmates had been involved in a verbal disagreement at Hillsboro High School last week. The stabbing occurred after the fight moved to the parking lot across the street.

Police said the boy punched the girl in the face after he was stabbed.

The girl has since admitted to being armed with a knife. She also unintentionally cut herself in the side of the head during the altercation.

Both teens were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The victim has since been treated and released, while the suspect remains hospitalized.

The female student is expected to be charged with carrying a knife on school property and aggravated assault.
