Shelbyville woman killed in crash on State Route 840 in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

A Shelbyville woman was killed and three others injured in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 840 east in Williamson County Monday afternoon.

Authorities said 63-year-old Debbie Atashzay of Shelbyville, Tenn. was killed in the accident around 1:30 p.m. near exit 37 at Arno Road.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported the crash happened when two vehicles were travelling slowly in the right lane and a third rear-ended the second, causing it to slam into the first.

The impact caused the first vehicle to the leave the roadway, injuring the 19-year-old driver.

The second vehicle rotated and came to rest in the middle of the road, killing Atashzay, who was the passenger, and injuring the 26-year-old driver.

The third vehicle flipped, landing on its side, also injuring its 35-year-old driver who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The conditions of the victims were not immediately known.

The THP said citations have yet to be issued but criminal charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
