Riverdale H.S. educational assistant charged with misconduct
Maurice O'Neal is charged with official misconduct, extortion and assault.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
An educational assistant at Riverdale High School in Rutherford County has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of a criminal investigation involving at least one student.
Maurice O’Neal faces charges of official misconduct, extortion and assault.
Information regarding the charges was not immediately released.
O’Neal, 27, has been employed with the school district since September 2010. He previously worked at other Rutherford County schools including Eagleville, Christiana Elementary School and La Vergne High School.
Officials said O’Neal passed all background checks prior to employment and received favorable recommendations from previous supervisors.
O’Neal is being held on a $35,000 bond in Rutherford County. He is scheduled to appear in court May 29.
