KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Two children were taken from a South Knoxville apartment Tuesday night and three adults charged after a meth making operation was discovered inside.

The Knoxville Police Department says they were following up on a meth investigation at the Stonewall Apartments along Sevier Avenue.

A meth lab was discovered in a bedroom shared by the parents and the two children, ages 14 and seven.

Officers also found burnt areas in the kitchen and freezer where it appeared a meth lab had caught fire. The residents had tried to put the fire out with a broom and ultimately threw it into the freezer.

Approximately two grams of finished product along with needles and other drug paraphernalia were found in the same room the parents and children were sharing.

Two plates with powder were found in the kitchen as well.

Four adults living in the home were taken in for questioning after being decontaminated. Three of the four, Thomas Hamby, 38, Melanie Hamby, 34, and Joshua Lyons, 35, were charged with manufacture of methamphetamine, promotion of meth manufacture, and drug paraphernalia. Additional charges are pending.

The children were taken to Children's Hospital for evaluation and were then turned over to a family member.
