NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The new Nashville Sounds ballpark under construction at Sulphur Dell will be named First Tennessee Park.
Sounds owner Frank Ward joined Nashville Mayor Karl Dean for the announcement at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville Tuesday morning.
Ward said they took great time in considering a local partnership for the new ballpark, which will be located on Jackson Street, east of the Bicentennial Mall between Fourth and Fifth avenues.
"We had opportunities to have other naming rights, but one of the things is, we wanted a partner that is part of the community and that shares our values," Ward said.
"This has been in the works for a very long period of time," added First Tennessee Bank president for the Middle Tennessee region, Carol Yochem.
"We've been very proactive with the Sounds, letting them know that we are interested in the naming rights," Yochem said. "With our plans for growth here, having the naming rights really represents our commitment to his market long term."
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean told News 2 the partnership is good for Nashville.
"It means First Tennessee has enough confidence in the stadium project and the viability of baseball downtown that they want to put their name on it," Dean explained.
