MADISONVILLE (WATE) - A mother and son were killed in a house fire Sunday morning in Monroe County.

Louise Turner, 86 and her son William "Tank" Vincent Turner, 51 died Easter morning when their house caught fire on Short Bark Road.

"It's very sad," Monroe County Sheriff Bill Bevins said. "I knew Tank. He was a really good guy and when you know somebody it makes it even more personal but it's sad for anyone especially on Easter."

Three fire departments within the county were dispatched to the fire around 9:30 a.m.

"We're approximately five or six miles from this location and we could see the smoke from our station and it  was pretty much fully involved," Tri Community Fire Chief Chad Leming said. "We had guys on scene within eight minutes."

Leming said he was on his way to church when he got the call about the fire.

"I had my Easter shirt on and everything on my way to church,"
Leming said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
