NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 6-year-old is helping to raise money for sick children by running in the St. Jude Country Music Marathon and Half Marathon.

Ian Miller will run the 5K and his father will run the half marathon.

It is an event that is close to the family's heart.

When Ian was 16-months-old he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. St. Jude helped the family cope with the difficult situation.

"While we were at St. Jude, we didn't have to worry about money for anything. They put us up in a place to live the whole five or six months we were there, they paid for all our meals," said Miller.

After ten surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Ian's current scan showed no signs of cancer.

Ian will now run for others as a St. Jude Hero, which means he will raise money so other families will not have to pay for life-saving treatment.

"Everywhere he goes he just lights up a room.  You see his personality, he's so fun and so much energy and I look at him and I think I want that kid to light up the room for a long time to come," said James Jackson, a member of Ian's team.

Anyone that would like to join Ian's team or become a St. Jude Hero can do so here.

The St. Jude Country Music Marathon and Half Marathon will take place Saturday, April 26.  More than 30,000 people are expected to attend.
