IRVING, Texas -

Michaels Stores, the nation's largest arts and crafts chain, said they have fallen victim to a security breach.

According to USA Today, 2.6 million credit cards may be impacted. That is about 7% of the total amount of debit and credit cards used at the company's namesake stores.

Their subsidiary Aaron Brothers was also attacked, with about 400,000 cards at risk.

Thursday's announcement comes nearly three months after Michaels said that it may have had a security breach, and that it was working with authorities, banks and payment processors on the issue.

Michaels said the security breach occurred between May 8, 2013 and January 2014.

Aaron Brothers was affected between June 26, 2013 and February 27, 2014.

The stolen customer information included payment card numbers and expiration dates. Michaels said no personal details such as names or PIN numbers were accessed.

The company also said the security breach has been contained.

Anyone with questions can contact Michaels at 1-877-412-7145.
