CHRISTIANA, Tenn. -
A 16-year-old Rutherford County boy has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after stabbing and killing his pet dog Tuesday.
Officials responded to the boy's home Wednesday where they found the pet Boxer hidden inside a tub in the family's storage barn.
The dog suffered from several stab wounds in addition to head trauma and bleeding.
"It was obvious that the dog suffered greatly," Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputy Williams reported.
The boy admitted to killing the Boxer. He was charged and taken to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center where he awaits a hearing.
Sheriff Robert Arnold said the sheriff's office is taking the case very seriously.
"We aggressively investigate incidents of animal cruelty," he said.
The boy’s name was not released.
