Girl propositioned getting off school bus in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

Authorities in Williamson County are asking for the public's assistance in finding a driver who allegedly propositioned a middle school girl as she got off her school bus.

Surveillance video from the school bus shows a Toyota Camry driving in front of the bus for miles before driving away on the afternoon of March 13 when the bus stopped to drop off a child.

Despite driving away several minutes before, the car resumed following in front of the bus a short time later.

Before the teen got off the bus, the driver asked the girl if she knew the driver of the Camry who had pulled into a nearby driveway.

The girl replied no.

Once off the bus, the victim said the man approached her and asked her to get in the car.

Avoiding the driver, the teen was able to safely run down her driveway to her home before the car took off.

"She was really shaken up," said the girl's mother, who did not want to be identified . "I'm very proud. She did the right thing, she took off running."

The mother added she feels like the driver of the bus did not do enough to ensure her daughter's safety.

Detectives told Nashville's News 2 the driver of the bus felt the Camry was suspicious, but did not call authorities at any point during the route.

However, according to school spokesperson Carol Birdsong, the bus driver made sure the student arrived at her house before continuing the bus route.

Authorities are continuing to search for the gray or silver 2010-2011 Toyota Camry. The car has a sunroof and heavy window tinting.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Williamson County Sheriff's Office at 615-790-5560.
