NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Nashville woman with deep family roots in the Boston area is using her connection for motivation to run in this year's Boston Marathon.

Adelaide Ness will run alongside her father for the YMCA's Restore Ministries counseling program which offers professional therapy to those in need.

When asked if she is concerned for her safety, Ness said she isn't worried.

"You get these e-mails from the marathon people about security and all the things you have to do, how to check bags and transportation to and from. It feels like they are focused on safety," she explained.

Ness added that being from the area, she knows the day of the marathon is a really big deal. Businesses close, schools close, and everyone heads to streets to cheer on the runners.

"Everybody is ready to make this a celebration again and kind of put the ugliness of last year behind them," she added.

The countdown to next Monday's race began with a memorial service yesterday.  Vice President Joe Biden attended and the courage of survivors is an inspiration for other Americans dealing with loss and tragedy, according to the Associated Press.

"We are Boston. We are America. We respond. We endure. We overcome. And we own the finish line," he concluded, to loud applause."

The 2014 Boston Marathon is expected to bring thousands to the city as a show of solidarity.
