U.S. Transportation Secretary makes stop in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

America's transportation czar will be making a pit stop in Nashville.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox will hold a news conference with Tennessee Department of Transportation officials to stress the importance of transportation and tour one of the city's most problematic overpass bridges.

The visit is part of Secretary Foxx's Invest in America, Commit to the Future bus tour, which is showcasing the importance of transportation investment at a time when the nation's transportation bill is set to expire and the Highway Trust Fund is running out.

The Nashville's Charlotte Avenue overpass bridge tour takes place on the second day of Secretary Foxx's week-long Invest in America, Commit to the Future bus tour.

The Charlotte Avenue Bridge has been problematic for some time.  Last summer, workers closed the overpass three times because of fallen concrete.

The thought is if more federal funds were available, work could begin sooner on a $55 million proposed project to repave and rehabilitate the 1960s-era bridge and others that connect Nashville's I-40 inner loop.
