NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An overturned tractor-trailer closed eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 overnight Monday.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday near mile marker 211 at the I-24 interchange near downtown Nashville.

A semi-truck somehow flipped onto its side across all lanes of traffic.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

In a separate incident at the scene, a Metro officer's vehicle was damaged just after 2 a.m. when a motorcycle edged through traffic barricades.

Police told News 2 the officer attempted to stop the driver when the driver struck his vehicle, causing it to slam into the chain being using to clear the semi from the scene.

The motorcyclist continued driving and was able to make it through the barricade.

Authorities closed I-40 east until 4:20 a.m.

Westbound traffic was not affected.
