Nashville woman selling phone falls victim to Craigslist scam

A Nashville woman fell victim to a Craigslist scam when she tried to sell her cell phone.

It happened Monday just after 1 p.m. at the Exxon gas station located on Smith Springs and Bell Road.

The woman told Nashville's News 2 Investigates she agreed to meet the man at the public location to sell a smart phone.

"He asked, ‘What do you want for [the phone] again?' I said, ‘$450,'" the woman who did not want to be identified said.

The victim said the man then snatched the phone from her hand and quickly drove away.

"He pulls out his money, reaches for his gear and takes off," she said. "I had to jump back in order for him to not roll over my foot or hit me in any kind of way."

The woman, who had one of her young children with her at the time, quickly called police and began doing Internet research of her own.

The victim reported she quickly took to the Internet where she discovered reporter Andy Cordan had done a similar story in recent months.

"It's definitely the [same] guy. That's the guy I just met up with. More than anything, it was just scary and I wouldn't want anyone else to experience that at all."

Metro police are looking into the woman's claim and working to determine if the two crimes are related.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
