NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man is recovering after crashing his pickup truck through a fence and onto the historical property of The Hermitage early Monday morning.

Metro police said the man lost control of his truck, crossed a cement median, crashed through a wooden fence, flipped upside down and then hit a tree at the plantation.

Police got the call on Lebanon Pike near Shute Lane at 4:07 a.m.

Firefighters spent about 40 minutes trying to get the man out of the truck.  They had to resort to using the Jaws of Life to cut him out.

Rescue crews said he was conscious and talking and was taken to the hospital.  He is expected to survive.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
