KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

Tennessee basketball player Jarnell Stokes announced Friday he has decided to enter the NBA draft, forgoing his senior year at the Knoxville university.

During his college career, Stokes started 84 of the 87 games he played and averaged 13 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

He also ranks among Tennessee's all-time leaders in offensive rebounding, double-doubles, total rebounding and scoring, as well as holds or  shares 10 Tennessee statistical records.

Following news of his Stokes' decision, head coach Cuonzo Martin said he expected the 20-year-old to "go down as one of the best big men to ever play at Tennessee."

"I know this wasn't an easy decision for him, but his goal has always been to be a pro, and he's worked incredibly hard to put that goal within reach," Martin said. "It's my hope that he'll eventually return to Tennessee and graduate, and he knows we'll do everything we can to support him when that time comes."

Last season Stokes, who is from Memphis, was a first-team All-SEC selection and he earned All-District honors from the NABC, USBWA and Basketball Times.

Since 1948, UT has produced 43 all-time NBA draft picks.

The NBA draft will be held June 26 and will be nationally televised on ESPN.
