NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Nashville Predators handed the Phoenix Coyotes a crippling 2-0 loss Thursday night in Nashville.

The Coyotes entered the night two points back of Dallas for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference and the loss seriously hurts their playoff hopes.

Pekka Rinne stopped all 29 shots he faced for the shutout and the 162nd win of his Predator career.  With the win Rinne passes Tomas Vokoun for the most in Predators history.

Craig Smith scored first for Nashville in the second period.  Patric Hornqvist added the insurance in the third period as the Preds won for the fourth time in five games.  It was the 21st goal of the season for both players.

Nashville plays its final home game of the season Saturday night against Chicago.
