Residents in a south Nashville apartment complex believe sewage may be leaking near their building.
The Casa Linda and Casa Blanca Apartments on Murfreesboro Pike have been dealing with a major water leak all week.
Residents and management began noticing the water rise from the concrete in the parking lot Monday, and by Thursday it began to smell.
As a mother to three children, resident Marlene Calderon is concerned.
"My concern is the toxins, the contamination," she explained to News 2.
Calderon believes sewage is running into the creek.
"Where it's running off, it's running directly into the creek right there. They don't have anything. They are running dirty water with paper towels. They are running exactly to the creek," she said. Apartment manager Pauline Spalding said it is just water, but admits the line is clogged.
She said it is from years of items being stuffed into the toilets and sinks at the former hotel. They are trying to remedy the problem.
"They spent over two hours trying to unclog it, because everyone around here keeps putting socks, wash rags, necklaces and paper towels down the toilet." Spalding said several companies and three different augers have tried to clear the hole.
"I just know that we've been trying. They've been out there for over two days trying," Spalding explained. The south Nashville apartment complex is now working with a crew to place a camera in the hole to see the problem.
