NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Talk of a Walgreens in the heart of Nashville's honkytonks isn't going away.

News 2 first reported in February that it was being whispered about in downtown circles for the corner of Third and Broadway, which now houses Trail West boots.

That still appears to be the case with recent articles speculating on the possibility, but some city leaders remain more than happy to publicly douse the idea of a Walgreens.

Visitors and Convention Bureau CEO Butch Spyridon said in February that, "An urban drugstore on Lower Broad in the heart of what is really unique and authentic to Nashville's character deserves some scrutiny."

Spyridon was unavailable for comment Thursday, but his office said those words still stand.

As for Walgreens, company spokesman Phil Caruso, told News 2 he stood by his February statement.

"I have no information on the location you inquired about," read his statement in an email.

News 2 spoke with a realtor in February who said, "There is a contract on the building," but the realtor did not return calls Thursday for an update.

As for those in the Trail West boot store, they said someone keeps coming "every so often or so asking if it's going to be a Walgreens."

The boot sellers say they just laugh, and politely decline to comment.
