HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. -

A Nashville man claiming to be a mechanic was arrested by authorities for stealing a Hendersonville family's SUV just after Midnight Wednesday.

Tiffany and Jonathan Wright told News 2 they went online to find someone to repair their Chevy Tahoe's transmission.

The couple stumbled across an ad on Craigslist posted by Jonathan Matheny who said he was a mobile mechanic and could make the repair for a reasonable price.

"I said, ‘I only have $900,' and he said, 'Sure, I can do it for $900,'" Jonathan Wright explained.

According to Wright, Matheny said he could not repair the Tahoe in the family's steep driveway, so he said he would make the repairs at his shop.

Wright said he paid the alleged mechanic $450, handed him the keys to the vehicle and watched him drive away.

"My advice, have 20/20 vision. Don't give your car up to someone you don't know," Wright said.

Hendersonville police issued an arrest warrant for Matheny two weeks later.

He was finally arrested around 12:30 a.m. Thursday in Davidson County.
