GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. -

A victim of a recent car break-in was able to help police nab the alleged criminal after the man returned to the crime scene.

Brian Bell is the co-owner of a Goodlettsville electronic design business, where the theft took place.

Last week surveillance video captured a man, now identified as Paul Dedrick, breaking out a window on Bell's truck and stealing an ash tray full of change.

"You feel vulnerable when you can't protect your property and you are only 20 feet away," Bell said.

He told News 2 since the theft occurred he watched the surveillance video multiple times, which ultimately helped Bell identify Dedrick when he returned to the scene of the crime Monday.

Upon seeing Dedrick, Bell jumped in his truck and followed the alleged thief who boarded a southbound bus near Rivergate Mall.

Bell immediately called police, who eventually pulled the bus over, arresting Dedrick.

"They stopped the bus. I was not expecting that. They pulled him over and got him off the bus," he said. "It felt good doing my civic duty, getting a criminal off the street. Maybe he won't victimize anyone else for a while."

Police said Dedrick has been arrested 20 times since 2008. He remains jailed on a $15,000 bond.
