HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. -

A Hendersonville man is jailed after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend at least 10 times over the weekend.

It happened at the couple's home at the Monthaven Park Place apartments around 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

Anthony Carpenter, 53, was arrested at the Days Inn in Cave City, Kentucky, a few hours later.

Carpenter's girlfriend was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.

Investigators said Carpenter stabbed the woman between 10 and 20 times.

"No one is immune from domestic violence," said Detective Sergeant Jim Vaughn, "and in this particular case, it was just one of those situations where it got out of hand."

Carpenter faces charges for attempted first degree murder. He was also charged by Kentucky authorities with being a fugitive from justice.

He remains jailed in Kentucky and is expected to be extradited to Tennessee in the near future.
