Report: Monteagle's police chief accidentally shoots, kills friend while hunting

MONTEAGLE, Tenn. -

Monteagle's police chief accidentally shot another man during a hunting trip Thursday morning in Marion County.

WTVC reported that 46-year-old Virgil McNeece shot Stanley "Ransey" Whitman, 41, just after 7 a.m.

They were turkey hunting with their kids off of Irondale Road near South Pittsburg when the incident occurred.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency spokesman Dan Hicks said Whitman was flown to Erlanger Medical Center where he died Friday.

The incident is still under investigation, however, the authorities believe it was an accident.
