CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A Clarksville father has agreed to serve 15 years behind bars for abusing and neglecting his one-month-old son.

Marcus Phillips, Sr., was scheduled to begin a jury trial at the end of the month, but has now pled guilty to aggravated child abuse and neglect, reported the Leaf Chronicle.

Phillips took his son to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on September 23, 2013 and said the child fell off the bed and hit his head on a laptop.

The baby suffered a bilateral skull fracture and hemorrhaging.

According to assistant district attorney Kimberly Lund, experts at Vanderbilt determined that the baby's injuries were not accidental and were caused by significant force.

The child now suffers from Cerebral Palsy because of his injuries.
