A Dickson County woman who has dedicated her life to taking care of others is now in need of care herself.
Tisha Wright, 31, has operated a daycare business out of her Charlotte, Tennessee home for the last 11 years. But recently, Wright had to shut her doors after learning she had Stage IV colon cancer.
"What devastating news for a young loving mother to find out that she was facing this kind of disease," said friend Kelly Dillingham.
Wright, who turns 32 on Friday, has four children of her own ages 11, 9, 6 and 5 months.
Dillingham says there were symptoms of the cancer for a while.
"She had slight symptoms for the last three years and was going to the doctor and doing everything right. The doctor was trying to pay attention but never dreamed [it was colon cancer] because of her age," Dillingham told News 2.
While younger adults can get colon cancer, 90% of new cases occur in people age 50 or older.
The diagnosis was made after Wright insisted on having a colonoscopy.
"She pushed for it. She knew something wasn't right," Dillingham continued.
Wright was diagnosed with cancer on March 24.
She is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy.
The community has begun to rally around Wright and her family. Several fundraisers have been planned to raise money to help cover their medical expenses.
"This is the type of family you just feel like you can't do enough for," said friend Ryan Sensing, whose young daughter was enrolled in Wright's daycare.
"The kids still beg to go over there," he continued. "She had a huge impact."
