BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -

A 31-year-old Franklin man has been charged with criminal homicide in the stabbing death of his father in the upscale Nashville suburb of Brentwood.

Daniel Cantrell is being held in the Williamson County jail on $1 million bond.

He had a bond hearing Friday morning, but his bond remains the same.
Oliver Cantrell Jr., 65, was found with multiple stab wounds inside his home at 5212 Heathrow Hills Drive just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

His daughter-in-law, Daniel Cantrell's wife, placed a call to 911 after returning from work and finding her father-in-law pale, bleeding and unresponsive.

She told the dispatcher she was unsure how or when Oliver was stabbed, but there was "blood everywhere."

"I don't think he's breathing," the frantic woman tells the dispatcher, repeating, "I don't think he's breathing; he's pale."

She said her husband was also at the home and having a "nervous breakdown."

"I don't really know what's going on.  I need an ambulance right away please," she is heard saying.  "I don't know when it happened.  Oliver! Oliver.  I don't know what's going on.  Oh my God. I just got here. I was at work."

She also told the dispatcher there was a large kitchen knife lying beside her father-in-law.

Responding paramedics pronounced Oliver Cantrell dead at the scene.

Daniel Cantrell was taken into custody shortly after.

News 2 obtained court documents of an interview between a detective and Daniel nearly four hours after the 911 call was made.  According to the affidavit, Daniel "...admitted that he had stabbed his father in the heart two times resulting in his death."

Oliver Cantrell was a local architect who worked with LifeWay Architecture in Nashville.

A company spokesperson told News 2 he worked for the company for 10 years and retired five years ago, but was still working as a consultant until his death.

He was also a familiar face at the Downtown YMCA every morning for several years.

Mike Servais started out as his workout partner years ago.  The two eventually became good friends.

Servais described Oliver as a kind, affirming family man.

"We need more Olivers to take care of us, to tend to us," said Servais. "And it's just a shock."

The investigation into Oliver's murder is ongoing.

Daniel Cantrell is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing April 9.
