Article claims famed Bluebird Cafe is closing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Some Nashville Scene readers were left broken hearted Tuesday after the publication posted an article online saying the famous Bluebird Cafe in Green Hills would be closing.

The article told readers a Jimmy Buffett's Cheeseburger in Paradise Bar and Grill would be opening in its place.

It turns out it was all an April Fools' joke.

However, the fairly lengthy article included a lot of detail leading some readers into thinking it was true.

"I laughed out loud," Bluebird Cafe General Manager Erika Wollam said about the article.

The article also quoted some big names in Nashville including Butch Syridon, Pam Tillis and even Mayor Karl Dean who had some fictional, yet choice words to say about Jimmy Buffet.

"The mayor's press secretary called our editor in chief to complain," staff writer Adam Gold said.

The Bluebird Cafe has since said they are not closing but appeared to take the joke in stride, even retweeting a link to the Nashville Scene's article.

A spokesperson in the mayor's office told News 2 they were unaware of Dean's fictional dismay toward Jimmy Buffet.
