RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. -

A North Carolina woman says her cat found her after she gave the feline away before moving to a new home situated on a busy road.

Prior to moving last month, Jill Roberson said she found a couple who lived on a farm willing to take her one-year-old cat Mayhem.

Weeks later, while sitting on the porch at her new home, Roberson said Mayhem appeared.

"We had been here about three weeks and I was sitting out on the porch and heard a cat meowing," Roberson told WSPA-TV. "I walked over to the fence and called to him because I could see anything and [Mayhem] came bounding under the fence and I have been in shock ever since."

Roberson said she quickly contacted the couple she had left Mayhem with. The couple, according to Roberson, lives about six miles away from her new home.

"I said, ‘Do you think it is possible for him to come that far?' And she replied, ‘It has been a few days since he was spotted.'"

Roberson said she is still surprised Mayhem was able to find her, especially since he had never been to her new home before.

"It just confirms that pets have feelings. We loved him, but we didn't realize he loved us that much, that he would track us down," she said. "It's just a miracle to me."

Mayhem now spends most of his time inside after being reunited with his family.
