Two weeks into conference play, the Southeastern Conference race is much more wide open than it was all of last season.
Last season, Vanderbilt and LSU separated themselves from the rest of the league. The commodores set an SEC record going 26-3, while the Tigers won the Western Division by 4 ½ games with a 23-7 record.
This season there are five teams with a 3-3 record tied for first place in the Eastern Division. Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Auburn currently lead the Western Division at 4-2.
Auburn and Tennessee are both having breakthrough seasons, making the SEC deeper than usual. Coaches believe last year was an exception to the norm, and aren't surprised by the competition this season.
