BOSTON, Mass. -

A man who lost his legs during the Boston Marathon explosion is now engaged and expecting a baby nearly one year after the devastating bombing, ABC News reports.

Jeff Bauman was standing near the marathon's finish line waiting to cheer on his now-fiance, Erin Hurley, 27, when the explosion occurred on April 15, 2013.

Bauman, 28, was hailed a hero after he gave a description of one of the suspected bombers from his hospital bed.

Bauman and Hurley became engaged in February and the pair said they plan to wed next year after they welcome their baby in July.

"We've got a lot going on. So we don't need to do everything all at once," Hurley said.

The couple said they are not finding out the baby's gender until he or she is born.

Bauman's new memoir, "Stronger" details his experience ofthe devastating tragedy. The book is out April 8.
