NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An 18-year-old accidentally shot last week while handling a gun with his friend has died.

William Blackwell, 18, was struck by a bullet on March 17 when his friend's gun discharged at a home in the 2300 block of Woodridge Drive in north Nashville.

According to investigators, Blackwell was holding the gun, but gave it back to his friend, 18-year-old Robert Goodner, when the gun fired.

Blackwell was shot in the neck and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died on Sunday.

Metro police have since ruled the shooting an accident and have not filed charges against Goodner.
