Man shot, killed outside Springfield market

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -

A man was shot and killed at a Springfield market Saturday night and an investigation has led to a person of interest.

The shooting took place in the parking lot of Discount Tobacco Market and Larry's Restaurant on Central Avenue around 8:50 p.m.

When authorities arrived, they learned a white Jeep Cherokee had sped away from the parking lot after several shots were fired into the rear of the vehicle.

The Jeep was located a few blocks on Childress Street where a man was found shot to death in the rear passenger seat.

The victim, identified as 24-year-old Joseph Sharkley, was shot in his upper body after bullets went through the back windshield of the car.

Two other females inside the vehicle at the time were not injured.  All three are from Gallatin, Tenn.

Springfield police said the investigation is ongoing.  Officials have a person of interest.
