Drunken man accidentally turns himself in to police

A drunken man was arrested in Cookeville early Friday morning after he accidentally turned himself in to the police.

The incident happened just before 2:30 a.m. on South Jefferson Avenue.

According to the Herald-Citizen, Officer Jimmy Blankenship was monitoring traffic when he spotted Darrell Gully, of Lafayette, stumbling down the street.

"The subject saw me and came over to my passenger side window. I rolled the window down and the subject attempted to stick his head inside and mumble something incoherently," Blankenship said.

The officer reportedly smelled alcohol on Gully's breath.

Gully was arrested, charged with public intoxication and booked into the Putnam County jail.

He said he had been drinking at a bar and was not sure of where he was.
