QUEBEC -

A dog that was found in a wooded area of Quebec, Canada was so dirty and matted he hardly even looked like an animal.

According to HLN-TV, the person who found Rasta took him to the Society for the Protection of Animals to be rescued.

Denys Pelletier, the general director, said Tuesday that the Shih Tzu was about 10 years old at the time.  They suspected he was homeless for several months before being found.

Pelletier told HLN the dog was completely covered in matted hair and mud.

It took six employees nearly three hours to clean Rasta, the name he was given due to the dreads the matted hair created.

When he arrived at the SPA, he weighed 17 pounds.

Once he got his makeover, Rasta weighed nine pounds.

Due to the heavy mats of hair, he had trouble walking and needed to spend time in a veterinary clinic and foster home before he could be adopted.

But a mere two months after his rescue, Rasta was taken in by a family where Petellier says he doing great.
